Mexico Rocks
Mexico Rocks, on the other hand, is one of the youngest marine reserves in the Ambergris Caye established in 2015. Mexico Rocks is known as a patch reef system, having heads or boulders of coral in a certain area, sand and sea grass in another area, then an area of coral again. As you approach Mexico Rocks, you will be impressed by the array of blue
variations as the boat cruises in. There are two areas to snorkel around the Mexico Rocks. The lower portion is approximately 8-9 feet of water; the upper portion is up to 15 feet deep. In the lower portion, you will get a reef full of vibrant colours and actions. Just to name a few, crabs, lobsters, green moray eels, parrot fish, angel fish, butterfly fish and my personal favourite, yellowtail damselfish, will be all swimming majestically, moving from one colony to another among the colourful corals. In the upper portion, larger marine life marks their presence. Schools of black snappers, sergeant majors, Bermuda chubs, nurse sharks would pass while a lonely ray digs around in the sand. If you ever wondered what it
would be like to swim in an aquarium, come visit the Mexico rocks. Word of advice: if a barracuda follows you around, bite back.
Come with Somos to explore one of the oldest marine reserves in a different way to begin your amazing day full of new experiences.
